My Sketching Progress This Semester + Hello, Again

My writing skills have begun to atrophy somewhat, and so too has the sparkle in my designing eye. Today I’m officially relaunching the blog with a new look and a much stabler undercarriage. I want my passionate expression back. With this time I have over winter break I hope to find it.

I thought I’d start by sharing high-quality scans of the seven sketching projects from the first semester of my design education. Sure, I wanna prove my progress to all of you in my audience, but even more so I think I need to prove it to myself so I keep putting in the effort. It’s hard, nigh impossible, to see improvement day after day without taking a step back. So without further ado…

Assignment 1: Cubes in Perspective (9/20/21)

Assignment 2: Composition (10/4/21)

Assignment 3: Seating Design (10/18/21)

Assignment 4: Plastic Product Design (11/1/21)

Assignment 5: Kitchen Appliance (11/15/21)

Assignment 6: Power Tool (12/1/21)

Assignment 7: Designer’s Choice (12/15/21)

Today, I’ve dealt with terrible booster vaccine side effects and moving all my shit for winter break, plus fixing the blog, so I’m breaking a long streak of practicing sketching every single day. I have not touched a pencil once in the past twenty-four hours. I’m struggling to justify this. Maybe breaking up a routine to evaluate it can have positive effects.

Blog Update: The Details

The entire blog has a fresh coat of paint, though the same essence has been maintained. I transferred everything over from a janky hosted WordPress to a slick Squarespace site.

But the effort didn’t stop there. I redesigned every page to look how I’ve always wanted, switched up fonts, and reuploaded every single image to finally display in the extended DCI-P3 color gamut. In layman’s terms, every image on my site now shows its intended lifelike color, provided you’re using a modern display. I’d urge you to revisit older posts such as Bozeman, MT 2021 and Cable, WI 2021 to see the breathtaking effect on the colors of trees, mushrooms, Cheetos, and just about everything else. It’s quite something.

So here I am, sitting in the same room where this blog began. Consider this the premiere of n8pf season two. I’ll send you off with a simple greeting:

Hello!
